Batter Woman's Gig - Oct 3

On October 3, the Sterling Music Exchange (John Weeks and I) performed acoustic music at an event hosted by the Battered Woman's Resources, Inc. (BRWI) in Fitchburg, MA at the FAY Club.

What a wonderful group of people we met there. We heard Executive Director Joanne Tulenon talk about the great work that her board and staff have been doing to support victims of domestic violence in north central Mass. We came away with a great appreciation for the good work that has been done and the great needs that still exist. We decided to partner (SME and BWRI on a musical event in the near future to promote peace and non-violence. Will keep you updated on this cool event which hopes to engage the community on a number of levels. Thanks to Karin Oliveira for getting us involved with BWRI.

Update: on November 9, Joanne Tulenon and I presented a concept for a nonviolence and music event focused on young people to the Leominster Cultural Council at City Hall. This event, to be held in May, 2007, will feature performances by young adult dancers, musicians and poets with a nonviolence theme. The event will take place at a venue in Leominster, possibly at city hall. We also discussed ideas to have a guest speaker talk you the young adults about peace and non-violence and possibly a youth panel discussion. See more details on www.sterlingmusic.org .
